[solved thumbs up] I cannot paste text in the online version

[solved thumbs up] I cannot paste text in the online version
November 16, 2010 03:31PM
Hi,

I am looking for a good plsql formatter. I tried the one in Oracle SQLDeveloper, but it isn't that good. As far as I can see from the builtin example code on the online demo version, this one is a lot better.
I tried to paste some code in there to test it, but somehow I can't. Is this how it is supposed to be - ie. that you can just try it by looking at the example code? Or should we be able to try it with our own code?

If the latter is the case, there may be something broken - or it must be that I am on a mac using Safari and Chrome - I can't paste text in either one.

Hi Luthien,
thanks for your message.

After having formatted a SQL statement just click "clear" to empty the screen and try a new one.

I'm sorry - what I meant was that it seems impossible to paste any code in the (online) formatter at all.
In any case, I can't.

So what I'd like to know is whether that is the intention - that you can only try it with the built-in example code; or if that that is not the intention - in which case there may be something broken, or maybe it is because I don't use a compatible browser (i.e. not IE) ?

Hi Luthien,
the intention is to paste any SQL code in the online version. That is why it is there. It formats any SQL code (first 100 lines).
The formatter works with IE, Firefox, Safari, any browser which has the JAva plugin installed

It my be "the intention" to be able to cut/copy/paste into the Online Version but it DOES NOT work for me either!

Hi homework2264,
thanks for your feedback. Is this issue still happening?

I am thinking about this and maybe the issue is happing because of your browser's security settngs?
Regards
Guido
You need to use ctl-v to paste.
Right mouse clicking and using the edit menu did not work for me either, but key commands work great.
Highlight and use ctl-c to copy result.

Hi,

I'm sorry - but there seems to be no single way in which it is possible to paste any text in the text window of the online version.

I have tried using the mouse context menu.
I have tried using keyboard shortcuts - both with the mac native CMD-C / V plus the windows CTR-C / V; using SHIFT with it, or ALT, or any combination thereof.
I have tried using the browsers's EDIT menu.
I have tried with Google Chrome.
I have tried wIth Safari.
I have tried with Firefox. All using the latest versions.

But so far I have not been able to past one letter of code in that online version.

So I'm sorry, but it just does not work. At least not on a mac.
I don't know what class you use for the text pane - but I am a Java developer myself and I have never seen this odd behaviour from any of the Swing classes.

Tried copy / paste in SQLinForm, different browsers.
It seems not possible on a Mac (10.6.6).
Tried a virtual win7 (fusion), no success either.

Hi thanks for your message. Could this be related to your security policy? Did you try it at home?

I'm having the same problem under Windows XP using Firefox 4 and Internet Explorer 7. I went into control panel and deleted everything related to Java and reinstalled Java update 6 version 24 but still it does not work.
Hi Guido:

The Ctl-V for paste text is not working. This makes the program ineffective online. Thanks for your attention to this problem.

Well, the online version won't allow pasting of any kind.

But at least the desktop version won't do formatting of any kind.

The author does no thinking of any kind.

I have the same problem, can't paste on the on-line version. Noticed that this began after a Java update. Returning to a previous version of Java solved the problem. Hope this sheds some light on the problem.

Hi - I have the same problem. Used to be you could ctrl-v to paste your SQL into the format window and relatively recently that stopped working. I am on a new computer, so I suppose there is some kind of Internet Explorer setting that needs to be tweaked, but it also does not work in Safari or Firefox. So unless there is a global security setting that prevents pasting into any browser window I don't know. Maybe something with the latest version of Java as a previous poster suggested.
Followup: I can paste into the rich text box of this forum... so I know that paste in general works on IE. It just does not work in SQLInForm.
Thanks.

Hi,
thanks to everybody for your feedback. Either I will find a solution to make the online version working for new Java version too or I will offer a free desktop version (with 100 line limit)

I am using Java 1.6.21 and it works. Which Java Version are you using?
Would someone who cannot paste code into the applet be able to send me the messages from the Java Console?
Regards
Guido

Guido,

The latest is 1.6.0_24. Paste does not work for me with this version. The console reads:

Java Plug-in 1.6.0_24

User home directory = C:\Users\dv

h: display this help message
l: dump classloader list
m: print memory usage
o: trigger logging
q: hide console
r: reload policy configuration
s: dump system and deployment properties
t: dump thread list
v: dump thread stack
x: clear classloader cache
0-5: set trace level to

On windows, can't paste in Firefox 3.6.15 or Chrome 10.0.648.133

I have the exact same problem. I have the same version as David Vega ( 1.6.0_24-b07 ). I can confirm it's a JRE version related bug. I've uninstall-ed this version and installed an older one 1.6.0_22-b04 and everything work like a charm. Please note that I only have the JRE not the full JDK. I hope it will help to fix the problem as soon as possible. Thanks in advance.

Oracle, the developer of the Java programming language, released Java 6 Release 24 (Java 1.6.0_24) in February 2011 to remedy 21 vulnerabilities: Announcement

As part of this security release, it appears that the ability to copy & paste from a computer's clipboard into a Java environment has been deemed a security threat, and therefore disabled. SQLinForm Online software is not preventing the copy/paste function -- the Java program on your computer is preventing it.

In order to fox this issue while waiting the new Java Release, add to your java.policy file the following line and retry
permission java.awt.AWTPermission "accessClipboard";

Thanks, maybe that update will solve the issue.

Oracle didn't develop Java. It's a database company that took over Sun last year. I can't say that I am overly happy with that.

did you modify the policy file inside the jre folder (not inside the jdk folder) ?
Regards
Guido
Thanks, the addition to the java.policy file solved this for me, I am using Chrome 10 and have never had a problem before now.

Now all you need to do is drop the horrible Comic Sans!
Re: [open] I cannot paste text in the online version

I've tried to add the line
permission java.awt.AWTPermission "accessClipboard" to my policy file but to no avail. I've updated the file and added several more lines

permission java.awt.AWTPermission "accessEventQueue";
permission java.awt.AWTPermission "setDropTarget";
permission java.awt.AWTPermission "accessClipboard";
permission java.awt.AWTPermission "acceptDropBetweenAccessControllerContexts";
permission java.awt.AWTPermission "listenToAllAWTEvents";

but still it doesn't work. I'm using the latest Chrome version but it's the same in Firefox 3.6.15 & IExplorer 8.0.

Any other suggestions or please give a "working" version of the policy file.

Thanks.
Just found that the java.policy file on my system was being read from a different place.

Use the java console to dump system and deployment properties (press s) then look for a line like:

deployment.user.security.policy = file://C:/Users/John/AppData/LocalLow/Sun/Java/Deployment/security/java.policy

Then place/edit your java.policy file in that location.

Then reload policy configuration (r) and see if text paste works inside the app.

Hope it helps, cheers.
